The Miswak, made from the roots and branches of the toothbrush tree (Salvadora persica), is considered to be the oldest toothbrush in the world. It was used by Babylonians and Indians for dental care 4000 years ago. The Miswak is also important in Islam, as it was used by the Prophet Muhammed (saw). It combines the properties of a toothbrush and toothpaste and contains natural tooth-care substances. By chewing it, a brush-like shape is created with which the teeth can be cleaned.
